A shocking start to the ladies’ competition. Laura Lepistö opened her short program with a perfect triple-triple toeloop combination, but then doubled the loop and fell on the axel, leaving the (relatively little) crowd gasping.
Laura scored a modest 53.45 points. The European champion couldn’t find any explanation to her meltdown.
“I was really satisfied with the beginning. The combination has been consistent in practice and it went well. The rest was a mystery to myself. I haven’t been practicing the SP a lot lately, as at Japan Open was only a free skate competition. I don’t know, maybe the program still needs a bit more mental training.”
